The Galaxy S5 is expected to become the world’s biggest selling handset overtaking Apple’s iPhone 5S, which reclaimed the title in December.
As the Samsung Galaxy S5 has so much to help you keep fit, you’ll undoubtedly be using it a lot while you’re out running, cycling . So it’s good to know that the phone’s water resistant and will stand up to rain and indeed sweat. In fact, the Galaxy S5 can survive being submerged in up to a meter of water for up to 30 minutes. It is waterproof and dust proof to IP67, which means it’s almost completely resistant to dust and water to a depth of 30 minutes! (Just enough time to fish it out of the toilet. Go on admit it, it’s happened to some of us!! lol )
The Samsung Galaxy S5 is the first smart phone with a built-in Heart Rate Sensor which enables you to measure your heart rate directly on your phone. Placed on the back just below the camera, it will let you check your heart rate in an instant so you can see if you’re pushing yourself hard enough. The phone even stores your heart rates, plotting them on a graph so you can easily see how quickly you recover from exercise.
The enhanced S Health monitors your fitness, diet, calories bunted, heart rate and distance covered. It then sets you simple goals. A bit like a personal trainer in your pocket, it will tell you to speed up or slow down! The Galaxy Gear Fit can be used in conjunction with the Samsung Galaxy S5. You can read your texts and emails on its screen, check your to do list, even reject calls and send a pre-written message to the caller.
Samsung Galaxy S5 child friendly with Kids Mode
The Samsung Galaxy S5 has a new feature not previously found in the Galaxy range: Kids Mode. The new kid-friendly feature allows you to lock your children out of the important parts of your phone, but still let them have fun with a number of dedicated apps, or if you want, access to specific apps on the device.
What age is Kids Mode aimed at?
The Kids Mode on the Samsung Galaxy S5 is aimed at children under 10. The approach is fun with the standard black Android interface replaced with a much more colourful experience. There are five dedicated apps within the Samsung Kids Mode: a camera app, a drawing app, a karaoke app, a picture gallery app, and a video playback app.
Samsung’s new Galaxy S5 doesn’t skimp on battery power, with an expected 10 hours of web browsing and 12 hours of video playback on a single charge. When you’re on hour 11 of watching all your videos with no charger in site, the handsets new “ultra power-saving mode” will keep your handset purring along by making the screen black-and-white and turning off all the non-essential services on your phone. Even better, Samsung says if you put your phone in standby mode with only 10 percent of the battery left, it will still last “up to 24 hours” before running out of juice.
Speaking at the unveiling Simon Stanford, vice president of IT & mobile division, Samsung Electronics UK & Ireland, said: ‘We’ve decided to go back to basics with the Galaxy S5 and focus on the features and things that matter the most to our customers – namely the camera, ability to view and download data and content quickly and their health and well-being.
‘People want a smartphone that enhances and enables their mobile life. The Galaxy S5 represents just that, and we’re excited to see the response to our latest flagship smartphone device.’
